Project description

This client had worked with Capital A before and in 2022 they bought a Victorian semi-detached house in Trinity, Edinburgh. The property needed modernisation and a better designed layout. The property had a large rear garden but the house didn't take advantage of this. 

There just wasn't enough space to accommodate a modern kitchen, living and dining room, so an extension was added. The extension makes the kitchen large enough to house a dining table and connects to a separate living room. Both spaces access a sheltered read deck, clad in Scottish larch.

The roof overhang creates a sheltered outdoor space, which allows the clients to sit and admire the mature rear garden. ​The roof is clad with zinc and supported by exposed Douglas Fir beams which compliment the larch cladding outside. The project created a series of spaces which form the centre of family life and brought this property into the 21st century.
