This client had worked with Capital A before and in 2022 they bought a Victorian semi-detached house in Trinity, Edinburgh. The property needed modernisation and a better designed layout. The property had a large rear garden but the house didn't take advantage of this.
There just wasn't enough space to accommodate a modern kitchen, living and dining room, so an extension was added. The extension makes the kitchen large enough to house a dining table and connects to a separate living room. Both spaces access a sheltered read deck, clad in Scottish larch.
The roof overhang creates a sheltered outdoor space, which allows the clients to sit and admire the mature rear garden. The roof is clad with zinc and supported by exposed Douglas Fir beams which compliment the larch cladding outside. The project created a series of spaces which form the centre of family life and brought this property into the 21st century.
