This owner of this suburban house in Balerno wanted a space where they could relax and enjoy their garden. The rear of the house faces south and they commissioned Capital A to design a modern garden room that could be used all year round.
The design is versatile, with sliding pocket doors that open up to bring the outside in. The choice of flooring and paving was deliberately made to ensure the space flows seamlessly. The roof spans out beyond the large glass doors, both to provide shade in the summer and shelter on days when the weather isn't perfect.
In order to maximise glass in the new garden room and comply with the building regulations, the space is separated from the house by an external door. The garden room is well insulated and heated, so it can be used any time of year.
