Architect In Edinburgh

Luxury House, Ireland

This is a preliminary design for a large, luxury house in a rural site in the West of Ireland. It is also the first commission Capital A has worked on outside of Scotland.

The house is designed to be built in stages, as the family grows and its design incorporates intimate walled gardens as a part of the architecture. This is something which was common in rural Irish houses but has been lost in recent years.

While at first the house design appears contemporary, it is in fact directly inspired by Georgian Architecture. It is symmetrical, formal and the large mass is broken down into smaller ‘wings’. It also plays down the roof by hiding it behind a parapet and uses a modern triangular interpretation of the classic ‘bay window’, on the main facade.
