Garage Conversion Feasibility, Edinburgh

This garage conversion was designed for a private client in suburban West Edinburgh. They wanted a self-contained apartment, more commonly known as a 'Granny Flat'. The outline of the existing two car garage will be retained and an additional storey added. The ground floor contains the living spaces and the upper floor has an en suite bedroom and a study. The upper level and the roof is clad in patinated copper, this natural material will blend in well with the surrounding trees and greenery. The neighbourhood already has several modernist buildings, some from the early 20th Century, so this contemporary design should be right at home. A planning application was lodged for this project in mid February 2009 and was granted in early April 2009.
